Melissa & Joey season 4 episode 20, entitled "Game Night," sees the two titular characters hosting a game night. After Joey successfully pitches the idea to a local board game store, the evening becomes a competition to determine who the ultimate game master is.
Melissa and Joey invite friends and family over for the event, including Joe's nephew, Zander, and his girlfriend, Tiffany; Joe's best friend, Hart; and Melissa's sister, Meredith, and her husband, Nick. Things get off to a rocky start when Melissa reveals that she has secretly invited her ex-husband, Joesph, to game night. Despite some initial reluctance, Joseph joins in the festivities and the games begin.
Throughout the night, the group plays a variety of games, including Settlers of Catan, Monopoly, and Clue. As the games progress, tensions rise and alliances are formed. Some players resort to cheating, while others try to maintain the spirit of fair play. A particularly intense moment of competition arises when the group plays a game of Risk.
As the night wears on, Melissa and Joey begin to worry that the competition is becoming too intense and that their friendships may be at risk. They intervene, attempting to calm the group and remind everyone that the most important goal of the night is to have fun. Despite their efforts, the competition continues to escalate.
The game night comes to an unexpected conclusion when a power outage leaves the group in the dark. Forced to rely on their imaginations and intuition rather than game boards and pieces, the players find a new way to compete and bond.
Throughout the episode, Melissa and Joey continue to support one another as they navigate their relationships with ex-spouses, difficult family members, and intense competition. In the end, the two reaffirm their commitment to one another and to their friends and family, who they consider to be their "chosen family."
"Game Night" is a lighthearted and fun episode of Melissa & Joey that highlights the importance of community and the joy of competition. The episode is filled with witty banter, unexpected twists, and heartwarming moments, making it a great addition to the show's fourth season.
