  • April 10, 2013

In season 3 episode 2 of "Motives and Murder," titled "Ring of Deceit," viewers dive into the complicated and harrowing story of a mother and daughter whose relationship takes a deadly turn. Sheila Davalloo appeared to have the perfect life, working as an executive at GE and living with her loving husband, Paul, in an upscale Connecticut neighborhood. But as investigators would come to learn, her seemingly perfect exterior was only a facade for a deeply disturbed and dangerous individual.

As the episode begins, we learn that police have been called to the Davalloo household after Paul was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds. He's rushed to the hospital, but it quickly becomes apparent that he won't survive the night. Sheila initially tells investigators that she and Paul were attacked in their bedroom by an unknown assailant, but as more evidence is gathered, her story starts to unravel. Friends and co-workers reveal that Sheila had been demonstrating increasingly bizarre behavior in the weeks leading up to the murder, and detectives soon discover that she was having an affair with a man named Nelson Sessler.

But Sessler's involvement in the case is only the tip of the iceberg. As detectives dig deeper, they discover that Sheila had been involved in a longstanding feud with her neighbor, Anna Lisa Raymundo. Anna Lisa had accused Sheila's daughter, Jasmine, of stealing a ring from her house, and the two women had exchanged heated words on several occasions. Police soon find evidence that points to Sheila as the one who stole the ring, and they arrest her for the murder of her husband.

But even after her arrest, the story takes a shocking turn. Sheila becomes increasingly volatile and erratic in jail, and a forensic psychologist reveals that she is exhibiting classic signs of borderline personality disorder. As more details come to light, it becomes clear that Sheila's relationship with her daughter was much more than a typical mother-daughter bond - and that Jasmine may have played a pivotal role in the murder of her father.

"Ring of Deceit" is a chilling and complex episode that explores the dark underbelly of a seemingly perfect suburban community. Through interviews with friends and law enforcement officials, viewers get a glimpse into the mind of a woman whose thirst for revenge ultimately led to the murder of her own husband. It's a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked jealousy and the damaging effects of personality disorders, and a reminder that sometimes the most dangerous killers are the ones we least suspect.
