Mr. Magoo is a classic animated television show about a near-sighted business tycoon, Quincy Magoo. Mr. Magoo was voiced by famous character actor Jim Backus. The character and story lines were originally produced as animated short movies to show before features at the theatre but graduated to their own television program. The character's creator, John Hubley, is said to have used W.C. Fields as a primary source of inspiration in the appearance and behavior or Mr. Magoo . Mr. Magoo is an elderly millionaire who is generally good-hearted but who has terrible eye sight. Magoo refuses to accept his vision issues. Mr. Magoo often mistakes inanimate objects for people and this usually leads to a misunderstanding that is the storyline for that episode. Magoo has a pet named Bower that Magoo thinks is a dog but which is actually a Siamese cat. The wealthy Mr. Magoo even has his own servant, Charlie. Magoo also has other characters in his world including his mother, his grandmother, and his nephew named Waldo. Waldo often has his own storylines with his con-man friend, Presley. At one point during each episode, Mr. Magoo utters his famous catchphrase Oh Magoo, you've done it again. Some episodes dissolve into fantasy, with Mr. Magoo appearing in the retelling of stories such as Robin Hood and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mr. Magoo has stood the test of time over the years since its debut. There were several spin-off series and television specials. He has appeared in a Christmas special that retold the story of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol with Magoo in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. There was also a big-screen live-action version of Mr. Magoo with Leslie Nielson in the lead role. TV Guide also named Mr. Magoo as one of the top 50 greatest cartoon characters in history.
