In the second story, Jackson visits Angela, who is facing difficulties with her cat, Nicholas. Nicholas is a 12-year-old Catwho has always been extremely affectionate. However, his behavior suddenly changed when Angela started dating and bringing over her new partner, Adam. As soon as Adam comes to their house, Nicholas becomes a different cat, becoming territorial, hissing and growling at Adam. Angela is afraid the situation could escalate, because Nicholas is already attacking her ankles. Jackson knows that Nicholas is acting out because he feels a threat to his home, and therefore needs to feel more at home with Adam around. He suggests giving Nicholas a safe area in Angela’s room, which was not Adam’s territory, where he could go and relax when Adam was around. Jackson also encourages gradual and frequent exposure of Nicholas to Adam with treats and games to encourage a positive relationship over time.
