The NCIS: Los Angeles Season 2 Episode 11, titled "Disorder," follows the team as they investigate the murder of a Navy man. The episode starts with a group of sailors on shore leave enjoying themselves at a bar. One of them, Petty Officer Jack Kale, steps outside to take a phone call, and moments later, he's shot in the back of the neck.
The NCIS team takes control of the investigation, and their first suspect is Kale's estranged wife, Lisa. Though Lisa appears to be the type to have motive for killing her husband, the team can't find any clear evidence to implicate her in the crime.
Their attention then turns to Kale's fellow sailors, Sam and Luke, who were with him at the bar. However, they too have alibis and no apparent motive. It's only when the team looks into Kale's own past that they discover the truth.
Kale was suffering from PTSD and had been struggling with his mental health. He had gotten into a bar fight a few nights before the murder and had been separated from the Navy shortly after.
The team realizes that Kale's mental state had gotten so bad that he had started to believe that his wife was having an affair with Sam. In reality, Sam was just trying to help Kale and take care of him. Kale's jealousy and delusion ultimately drove him to take drastic action.
The team finally piecing together the motive sheds light on the difficulty many service-people face in transitioning back to civilian life after experiencing extreme situations in warzones. NCIS: Los Angeles, the episode "Disorder", gives an insight into both the mental and emotional burden that such trained individuals carry with them even after retirement.
