In the first episode of Occupied's second season, titled "August," we are reintroduced to Jesper Berg, Norway's former prime minister who was kicked out of his position by the Russian occupation in the previous season. He has now retreated to a cabin in the mountains and seems to have given up on politics altogether.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian government has officially recognized the Russian-backed government and Prime Minister Green has been forced to step down. In his place, the moderate Christian Democratic party has taken power and is determined to find a peaceful solution to the occupation. However, tensions are high and a series of events caused by an attack on a Russian oil tanker in the Norwegian Sea could escalate the situation into all-out war.
We also catch up with Hans Martin Djupvik, a former bodyguard who was caught up in a deadly shootout in the previous season. He has since been discharged from the police and is struggling to find his place in life. His relationship with former journalist Ane is strained, as she pushes him to join her in investigating a potential conspiracy involving the oil industry and the resistance movement.
The episode is tense and sets the stage for what promises to be a dramatic second season. It touches on themes of politics, loyalty, and the delicate balance between diplomacy and force. The characters are all struggling to find their place in this dangerous new world, and it remains to be seen who will come out on top.
