In the premiere episode of Paranormal Lockdown season 1, Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman take on the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia. The infamous asylum, which operated from 1864 to 1994, housed thousands of mentally ill patients throughout its history and was known for its controversial treatments, neglect, and abuse of patients.
Throughout the episode, Nick and Katrina spend 72 hours locked inside the building, investigating reports of paranormal activity. They begin their investigation in the medical center of the asylum, where they experience unexplained noises and sensations. As they move deeper into the building, they explore the cells of the criminally insane and the women's ward, where they encounter several potentially significant paranormal experiences.
Throughout the investigation, Nick and Katrina use a variety of high-tech equipment, including thermal imaging cameras, EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) recorders, and ghost boxes to try and communicate with any spirits that may be present. They also participate in a seance with psychic-medium Chip Coffey, who tries to make contact with any spirits that may be lingering in the asylum.
Ultimately, the investigation at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum yields some compelling evidence, including digital recordings of unexplained voices and apparitions captured on thermal imaging cameras. Nick and Katrina are left shaken after their experience inside the asylum and eager to continue their investigation of the paranormal.
