As he and Charlie continue to battle over custody of Owen, Bailey goes behind his brother's back to get advice from their child welfare caseworker. Following Claudia's repeated efforts to contact her at school, Julia returns home and offers to help with their dispute. However, as both Charlie and Bailey insist that Julia not get involved, Sarah struggles with her mother's decision to remarry. As a result of the welfare caseworker's surprise visit, Charlie insists he'll hold Bailey responsible if they lose custody of Owen. And after Claudia tries to break through the secrecy that surrounds her sister's life, Maggie warns the Salingers that a relationship with Ned could be putting Julia in danger. Word that Griffin's accusations are true send Bailey and Charlie to bring their sister home. However, after they threaten Ned, Julia chooses to stay and work things out. Bringing Owen to dinner with her new family causes problems between Sarah and her mother. As Sarah insists that her mom accept her involvement with the Salingers, Bailey and Charlie square off over who's responsible for their family's problems. And while Sarah then demands that Charlie and Bailey not shut her out of their decisions, Julia turns to Maggie to talk about her history with Ned's anger.
