Ep 5. Caroling Dusk

In "Caroling Dusk," the fifth episode of the second season of Queen Sugar, the Bordelon family prepares for the holiday season as tension continues to mount between Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) and Nova (Rutina Wesley).

Charley, still reeling from the revelation of her husband's affair, struggles to keep up with the demands of her job as a sugar mill owner and navigate her complicated relationships with both her estranged husband and her former lover, Remy (Dondré Whitfield). Meanwhile, Nova grapples with the aftermath of her explosive article on police brutality and the strain it has put on her relationship with her family and her community.

As the holidays approach, the Bordelon family comes together to participate in a longstanding tradition: caroling through the streets of St. Josephine. Charley and Remy reconnect on the caroling route, sharing a tender moment as they reflect on the past and consider the possibilities of the future.

Nova, still feeling the aftermath of her article, finds solace in a surprise visit from a former love interest and reckons with the consequences of her actions.

But it's Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) who steals the show in this episode, as he grapples with the difficult decision of whether to allow Blue's biological father to be a part of his son's life. Blue's father, Darla's (Bianca Lawson) ex-boyfriend, has reached out to Ralph Angel and expressed a desire to reconnect with his son.

Ralph Angel, torn between his love for Blue and his fear of losing him, seeks advice from family members and ultimately makes a decision that will have profound consequences for both himself and his son.
