The item is a magic mirror that has the power to grant any wish. Happosai had buried it on the beach years ago, intending to come back to retrieve it when he had found someone worthy of making a wish.

Ranma and Akane agree to help Happosai find the mirror. As they search for it, they encounter various obstacles, including an angry octopus, a group of beachgoers who mistake Happosai for a thief, and a giant sandcastle that comes to life. When they finally find the mirror, Happosai is overjoyed. He tells Ranma and Akane that he plans to use the mirror to become young again and continue his lecherous ways.

As Happosai prepares to make his wish, however, the bartender he taught flame breathing to earlier arrives on the scene. The bartender, now obsessed with the power of flame breathing, wants to steal the mirror and use it to become the greatest martial artist in the world. A fight breaks out between Happosai and the bartender, and in the chaos, the mirror is shattered.

As Ranma and Akane survey the damage, they realize that the mirror was not magical at all, but rather just an ordinary mirror. Happosai is devastated, but Ranma tells him that he doesn't need magic to become young again. He just needs to train hard and take care of himself. Happosai agrees, and the group leaves the beach with a newfound appreciation for the power of hard work.
