- November 12, 1996
The seventh episode of Saber Marionette J's first season is titled "Getting Rich Quick Is a Sour Joy." The episode starts with Otaru, Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry deciding to try their luck at making some quick money by entering a competition for inventors. The prize for winning the competition is one million dollars, which is a significant amount of money in the setting of the show.
The group starts brainstorming for ideas. However, they soon realize that they do not have the skills required to invent something that would win them the competition. That is when they meet a scientist named Dr. Lizzetta. Dr. Lizzetta offers to help them out with their invention, and they accept her offer.
The group spends the entire night working on their invention, which they name the "Candy-making machine." The machine is designed to produce candy pearls with different flavors. When they present their invention at the competition, the audience is impressed, and the judges declare their machine the winner.
As soon as the group wins the competition, they become celebrities overnight. They are asked to appear on various TV shows and participate in advertising campaigns. They soon realize that being famous is not as fun as they thought it would be. They become exhausted from all the attention and lose touch with their daily lives.
Meanwhile, a group of villains takes notice of the Candy-making machine and decides to steal it. The villains are led by a character called Gunchester, and they are shown to be in possession of their own Saber Marionettes. The group of villains sneaks into the group's house and steals the invention, leaving Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry injured in the process.
Otaru is enraged by the attack on his friends and vows to get the Candy-making machine back. He sets out on a search for the villains, but his efforts are in vain as the villains have already left the city. Otaru then comes up with a plan to lure the villains back into the city by advertising a fake "Candy-making machine" exhibition.
The plan works, and the villains return to the city, thinking that they can steal the machine again. Otaru and his friends, however, are ready for them, and they engage in a fight. The villains are defeated, and Otaru's group retrieves the Candy-making machine.
In the end, Otaru and his friends realize that they had been blinded by their desire for quick money and fame and that money cannot buy happiness. They return to their normal lives, content with the knowledge that they had created something valuable and meaningful.
Overall, the episode is a fun and enjoyable watch, filled with action, humor, and a valuable lesson. It showcases the characters' creativity and resourcefulness and also introduces new antagonists that add to the show's overall storyline.
