Saturday Night Live Season 15 Episode 7 John Goodman/k.d. lang & The Reclines
- Not Rated
- December 2, 1989
John Goodman and k.d. lang take the SNL stage in season 15 episode 7, joined by lang's band The Reclines. Goodman, known for his comedic chops, is sure to bring the laughs as he hosts the iconic late-night sketch show. Meanwhile, lang and The Reclines bring their own unique brand of country music to the musical performances of the evening.
As with every episode of SNL, viewers can expect a mix of topical sketches, recurring characters, and surprise guest appearances. With Goodman at the helm, it's likely that some of the sketches will lean towards political satire or absurdist humor. Goodman, after all, is no stranger to both: he's portrayed politicians like Newt Gingrich and Rex Tillerson in the past, as well as memorable SNL characters like Linda Tripp and Walter Sobchak.
Lang, on the other hand, is a bit of a wildcard when it comes to her performance on the show. While she's certainly well-known in the music industry, her appearances on SNL have been few and far between. However, with The Reclines by her side, it's sure to be a country-infused musical extravaganza. Viewers can also hold out hope for a few comedic musical performances from lang - after all, she's known for her sense of humor as well as her powerful voice.
One thing that's virtually guaranteed for this episode is a Weekend Update segment that tackles the latest news with SNL's trademark brand of quippy humor. The 1990s were a particularly ripe time for political scandals and cultural events, so it's likely that the Update anchors (played by Kevin Nealon and Victoria Jackson in season 15) will have plenty to say. In fact, the episode aired just a few days after George H.W. Bush pardoned former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger and five other officials for their involvement in the Iran-Contra affair - so it's a safe bet that that'll be on the agenda.
Some of the recurring SNL characters of the time could also make an appearance in this episode. It's possible that Dana Carvey's Church Lady or David Spade's Hollywood Minute could pop up to provide their own brand of commentary on the week's events. At the same time, though, SNL has always been known for its willingness to experiment and try new things - so viewers might be treated to some brand new sketches and characters that have never been seen before.
All in all, season 15 episode 7 of Saturday Night Live promises to be a fast-paced, hilarious installment of the iconic sketch show. There's something for everyone in this episode, from political satire to musical performances to downright absurd humor. And with John Goodman and k.d. lang leading the charge, it's sure to be a memorable 90 minutes of television.
