Tina Fey returned to her old stomping grounds for Saturday Night Live's season 43 finale, and it's safe to say that she still has it. The former SNL writer and cast member immediately brought the laughs during her monologue, where she joked about her recent controversies with the sheet cake and Charlottesville incidents, and gave audiences some insight into her upcoming Mean Girls musical.
The sketches in this episode were solid across the board. One highlight was a parody of The Bachelor, where Fey played the host of a new version of the show that's centered around Trump administration members. Another standout sketch featured Fey and Aidy Bryant as moms trying to have a casual hangout, but getting increasingly competitive and passive aggressive about their respective PTA duties.
The episode's cold open saw the return of Alec Baldwin as Trump and his inner circle, as they celebrated their success and wondered whether or not they could all go to jail. The sketch felt somewhat repetitive as far as Trump material goes, but the jokes still landed.
The musical guest, Nicki Minaj, also put on a strong performance. Minaj brought out Playboi Carti for their collaboration, "Poke It Out," and also performed her singles "Chun-Li" and "Bed" with a stunning set and backup dancers.
Overall, Fey's episode was a fitting end to a strong season. Fey is one of SNL's most beloved alumni, and her comedic sensibilities meshed perfectly with the current cast. The night was filled with moments that were both hilarious and poignant – a reminder of why SNL has remained a cultural institution for over 40 years.
