Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew is a spin-off of Dr. Drew Pinsky's other VH1 reality show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Sex Rehab follows a group of celebrities for 21 days as they try understand and conquer their sex based addictions. Dr. Drew is helped in his quest to assist the celebrities on Sex Rehab by a number of doctors and other individuals at his Pasadena Recovery Center in Pasadena, CA. One of the main doctor's working with the celebrities is Jill Vermeire, MFT. Dr. Vermeire is a licensed sex addiction therapist who works to help individuals recognize the reasons behind their addictions. Both Dr. Drew and Dr. Vermeire meet with the patients in one on one meetings, as well as group sessions. The other main doctor on the show is Dr. John Sealy who is a psychiatrist who works with patients on the reasons behind their behaviors. In addition to the doctors at the Pasadena Recovery Center, there are other support staff as well. The main support for the patients at the center itself comes from Selma, a lead technician, Louis a resident technician and Shelly Sprague, a former addict who also appears on Celebrity Rehab and works as a resident technician at the center. The celebrities who have come to the center for help with their addictions come from a variety of careers within the entertainment business. Two of patients, Jennifer Ketcham and Kendra Jade Rossi, work in the pornography industry. Nicole Narain, Kari Ann Peniche and Amber Smith are all models. The men in treatment are James Lovett, a surfer, Duncan Roy, a producer and Phil Varone a musician. Though the patients come from a variety of backgrounds, each of them struggles from the same problem, the fact that their sexual addictions are ruining both their careers and personal lives. Over the course of Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew the celebrities learned to understand the reason behind their sexual addictions, as well as ways to deal with their sexuality in healthy ways.

Four days into treatment, the patients are becoming increasingly agitated. Kari Ann refuses to get up in the morning with everyone else. Her refusal to get up upsets some of the others, especially Kendra. To have a true experience of themselves Drew and Jill have the women remove their protective outer layer of makeup. Kari Ann writes a letter to Kendra.

Dr. Drew and Jill begin treatment by trying to find out a little bit of the patients' backgrounds. Most sex addicts suffered severe emotional, physical or sexual abuse while they were growing up, and these patients are no different. Duncan and Kendra both reveal a little bit about their own past abuse during group. Outside of the therapy sessions, Phil finds himself developing a huge crush on Amber. Kari Ann still wants to go home.
