Ep 1. Episode 1

In Season 8 Episode 1 of Shameless titled "We Become What We ... Frank!" the Gallagher family is back and as dysfunctional as ever. The episode begins with a festive gathering in the Gallagher household - the family is celebrating the release of Frank from a month-long stint in the hospital after a liver transplant. However, the happy mood soon turns sour as it is revealed that Frank has gone back to his old ways and has already started drinking and popping pills again.

Meanwhile, Fiona is trying to hold down the fort as the new owner of the apartment building, which she inherited from their late Aunt Ginger. She is facing a crisis as the electrical system in the building is failing and the tenants are threatening to move out if it's not fixed. To make matters worse, she discovers that the previous owners had not paid the property taxes, leaving Fiona with a huge debt to pay off.

Lip is trying to keep himself busy by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and getting a job as a mechanic, but he is constantly haunted by his past mistakes. Carl, who has just returned from military school, is struggling to fit in and is faced with racism at his new workplace. He is also dealing with the fact that his girlfriend Kassidi is completely obsessed with him.

Debbie, who is now a welder, is trying to make her way in the world but is finding it difficult to pay for daycare for her daughter. Ian, on the other hand, has retreated into himself after his breakup with Trevor and is struggling to find any sense of purpose. He briefly considers joining the army but quickly realizes it's not for him.

In typical Shameless fashion, the episode is filled with outrageous and at times, downright offensive humor. Despite the show giving its characters some of the worst possible attributes and traits, it manages to find a way to still make them relatable and endearing. Each of the characters is flawed, but they're all looking for ways to improve themselves and make a better life for themselves and their loved ones.

Overall, Season 8 Episode 1 sets the stage for what promises to be an eventful and entertaining season. It shows how the Gallagher family is adapting to the challenges that life throws their way and how they continue to lean on each other for support. As always, the show provides a refreshing dose of dark humor and manages to shine a light on some of the most pressing issues affecting society today.
