After receiving letters from the living, Shino is sent on a delivery to a man named Tomoya Sudo who is in a coma. Upon arriving, she finds that his mother, Ryoko Sudo, is constantly at his side, hoping for him to wake up. Shino learns that Tomoya was in a car accident while on his way to a job interview for a company he was eagerly looking forward to working for. With Tomoya's life seemingly on hold, his mother has taken it upon herself to constantly call and berate the company about their decision to not hire him despite his impressive abilities, blaming them for her son's state.

While the cause of Tomoya's accident is unknown, Shino discovers from the letters she has collected that one of his closest friends, Miki Okudera, has been receiving strange anonymous texts accusing her of being the one who caused the accident for not being there for Tomoya when he needed her most. Feeling guilty and remorseful, Miki reaches out to Shino for answers as to why these accusations against her are being made.

As Shino continues to investigate, she uncovers the dark truth behind what really happened to Tomoya on the day of his accident and the lies that have been told to cover it up. With the help of Miki and others involved in the incident, Shino works to set things right and allow Tomoya to finally wake up and move forward with his life.

Throughout the episode, themes of guilt, responsibility, and the consequences of our actions are explored. The characters are multi-dimensional, and their struggles with the weight of their past decisions are relatable. The plot is engaging and keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat as the mystery surrounding Tomoya's accident slowly unfolds. As with other episodes of Shigofumi, the use of letters as a narrative device adds a unique and poignant element to the storytelling.

In conclusion, Shigofumi season 1 episode 9 is a compelling and emotional episode that highlights the power of our choices and the importance of taking responsibility for them. With a well-crafted plot, complex characters, and poignant messages, it is a standout episode in the series.
