In episode 1 of Sound of the Sky, we are introduced to a world that has been devastated by war, and the people that are left to pick up the pieces. The focus of the episode is on a young girl named Kanata Sorami, who has just joined the Helvetian Army's 1121st Platoon. Kanata is excited to be joining the Army, but she soon learns that life in the Platoon is not what she expected.

The episode opens with Kanata on a train, heading to her new assignment. She is excited to be starting her new life, and she spends much of the journey looking out the window at the beautiful scenery. As she nears her destination, she notices that the landscape begins to change, becoming bleaker and more barren.

When Kanata arrives at the Platoon's base, she finds that it is located in a small, remote town called Seize. The town is surrounded by mountains, and the only way to get there is by crossing a narrow bridge over a deep ravine. Kanata is immediately struck by how isolated the town is, and she begins to feel a sense of apprehension.

As she steps off the train, Kanata is greeted by the members of the Platoon. There is Rio, the stoic, no-nonsense leader of the group; Filicia, the Platoon's commander, who is kind and caring but also has a tough side; Kureha, a hot-headed soldier who initially doesn't take kindly to Kanata; and Noel, the Platoon's mechanic and inventor.

After being introduced to the rest of the Platoon, Kanata is given a tour of the town by Rio. As they walk through the streets, Kanata is struck by how quiet and still everything is. There are no cars, no bikes, and no people around. She soon learns that the reason for this is that there is a curfew in place. Every night, the town shuts down completely, and the residents are not allowed to leave their homes.

Despite the eerie atmosphere of the town, Kanata is excited to get to work with the Platoon. Her first assignment is to help Noel with some repairs on a tank. Kanata is in awe of Noel's skill and ingenuity, and she quickly learns that Noel is the one responsible for most of the Platoon's weapons and equipment.

As the day goes on, Kanata slowly begins to get to know the other members of the Platoon. She learns that Rio is a skilled trumpeter, and that the Platoon has a tradition of playing music at sunset every day. She hears about Filicia's past, and how she came to be the leader of the Platoon. And she gets into a fight with Kureha, which ends up bringing the two of them closer together.

As the sun begins to set, the Platoon gathers on a hill overlooking the town. Rio takes out her trumpet, and begins to play a hauntingly beautiful melody. The other members of the Platoon join in, playing various instruments. Kanata is mesmerized by the music, and she feels as though it is filling her up from the inside.

As the music fades away, Kanata begins to realize that there is something special about the Platoon. Despite the hardship and isolation of their situation, they have found a way to connect with each other and with the world around them. And in that moment, Kanata knows that she has found a home.

The Sound That Fills the Air: The City of Dawn is a beautiful and introspective introduction to the world of Sound of the Sky. It sets the tone for the rest of the series, which is filled with quiet moments of reflection and powerful character development. Through Kanata's eyes, we see the world as a place of beauty and wonder, even in the midst of darkness and despair. It is a promising start to a series that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
