Sound of the Sky Season 1 Episode 2 First Battle: A Chair Story

Kanata, Kureha, and Rio have been assigned to the Lookout Post, where they will be on watch duty for the next month. While Kanata is excited about the opportunity to star-gaze, Kureha is eager to engage in combat and defend the Fortress. Meanwhile, Rio is preoccupied with constructing a chair, much to the bewilderment of her comrades.

As Kanata and Kureha settle into their new environment, they become increasingly concerned with Rio's behavior. She refuses to assist with watch duty and instead devotes all her time and energy to building the perfect chair. Kanata attempts to talk to Rio, but the latter is unresponsive and dismissive. Eventually, Kanata and Kureha decide to confront Rio about her behavior. They discover that Rio has a deep reliance on the chair as a comfort object and source of stability.

The trio's peace is short-lived, however, as they soon receive a request for assistance from the Fortress. The Kingdom of Helvetia has sent a small battalion to engage in battle, and the Lookout Post is the first line of defense. Kanata and Kureha spring into action, but Rio remains disinterested, instead focusing on the construction of her chair. Kanata tries to convince Rio to help, but to no avail.

As the Helvetian forces approach, Kanata and Kureha attempt to fight them off. Despite their best efforts, they are vastly outnumbered and quickly overwhelmed. Just when it seems like all is lost, Rio emerges from her tent atop her finished chair. With a newfound sense of determination, she leads Kanata and Kureha in battle.

With Rio's leadership and the trio's combined efforts, the Helvetian forces are defeated. However, the Lookout Post has suffered significant damage, and the trio is left to pick up the pieces. Rio's true feelings about the chair are revealed, and Kanata and Kureha come to understand the importance of the object to their comrade. In the end, the trio's bond is strengthened, and they prepare to face whatever challenges may come their way.
