Spencer and Ashley's relationship faces further complications in South of Nowhere season 1 episode 9, titled "Say it Aint So, Spencer (1)." With the revelation that Ashley's mother is an alcoholic, Ashley is forced to confront some unresolved issues with her family. Meanwhile, the lawsuit against Clay's employer thickens, raising the stakes in his case significantly.

Spencer's world is shaken when her father informs her that he and her mother are getting divorced. Feeling betrayed, Spencer turns to Ashley for comfort, but her girlfriend is preoccupied with her family problems. Spencer grows increasingly frustrated with Ashley's lack of attentiveness, and when she discovers that Ashley has been keeping a secret from her, their relationship is put to the test.

Chris is still struggling in his attempt to win Kira's affections, but when he enlists Glen to help him impress her, things quickly spiral out of control. Glen is too focused on impressing Kira himself to give Chris any real help, and when they both do something embarrassing in front of her, Chris realizes he may have lost the girl of his dreams for good.

In the midst of all this chaos, Aiden and Sean's own relationship is unfolding before them. Sean confronts Aiden about his "player" reputation and gets mixed signals about Aiden's true feelings for him. Aiden insists that he really likes Sean, but when Sean catches him talking to another guy, he can't help but feel jealous and hurt.

As the episode ends, the characters are all facing uncertain futures. Spencer and Ashley's relationship is in severe jeopardy, Chris is heartbroken over Kira, and Aiden and Sean's dynamic is hanging by a thread. With so much drama at play, it's unclear how these characters' lives will be affected in the long run.
