This science fiction series adds to the Star Trek franchise with the story of a space-faring mission that takes place about a decade before that of Captain Kirk and the Enterprise of the original series. In this one, the Klingons are engaged in a war with the United Federation of Planets, and the starship Discovery gets caught in the conflict. The series follows the adventures of the crew of the starship Discovery as it becomes involved in the war with the Klingons. The second season takes place after the war has ended, but tensions are still high. In the third season, the timeline of Discovery begins to converge with the timeline of the original series. Rather than deal with a potential overlap between the storylines, the Discovery and its crew are catapulted 900 years into the future. This time jump to the 32nd century puts the plot well away from any other of the series or movies in the Star Trek franchise.
