Stella is a British comedy-drama television series that aired on BBC One from 2012 to 2017, created and written by Ruth Jones, who also stars as the main character. The show follows the life of Stella Morris, a 40-something single mother who lives in the fictional Welsh town of Pontyberry with her three children and close-knit group of family and friends.

The series is set against the backdrop of Pontyberry, a small Welsh town that is full of eccentric characters and quirky traditions. At the heart of the show is Stella, a warm, funny, and fiercely independent woman who is trying to navigate the ups and downs of everyday life whilst juggling the demands of her job as a nurse, her relationship with her ex-husband, and her responsibilities as a mother.

Throughout the series, we see Stella dealing with a variety of challenges and conflicts, from the pressures of Christmas to the struggle to find love. Her relationship with her best friend Paula is a constant source of support, laughter, and drama, as the two women navigate their way through life's ups and downs together.

Another recurring character is Stella's mother, who has been in a care home for many years but still manages to exert a strong influence on Stella's life. She is a formidable figure, full of sharp wit and a no-nonsense attitude, and always ready to offer advice (whether requested or not).

One of the most appealing aspects of Stella is its strong sense of community. The show is full of vibrant, colorful characters who all have their quirks and foibles, but who are ultimately supportive of one another. From Aunty Brenda, the local gossip, to Dai, the town's resident jack-of-all-trades, the characters are all lovable and endearing in their own unique way.

Stella's family is a key part of the show, and we see the ups and downs of her relationship with her children, who are all finding their own way in the world. Her eldest daughter, Emma, is a university student who is struggling with the pressures of student life, while her son Luke is trying to find his feet in the working world. Meanwhile, her youngest daughter, Ben, is dealing with the trials and tribulations of teenage life, from first love to rebelliousness.

Despite the show's many comedic moments, Stella also explores some deeper themes and issues. Mental health, addiction, and domestic abuse are all explored in a thoughtful and sensitive way, but without ever straying too far from the show's lighthearted tone.

The show's setting in Wales also adds an extra layer of charm and warmth to the proceedings. The sense of community and togetherness is palpable, and the show celebrates Welsh culture in all its glory. From the annual Eisteddfod to the passion for rugby, the show is a love letter to Wales and its people.

Overall, Stella is a heartwarming and charming series that celebrates the joys and challenges of everyday life. With a talented cast and a sharp script, it is both funny and touching, and a true gem of British television.
