Ep 1. Pilot

Supergirl is an American superhero television series that is based on the DC Comics character Supergirl. The show first premiered on October 26, 2015, on CBS. The first episode, titled Pilot, was directed by Glen Winter, and it introduces viewers to Kara Danvers/Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist.

The episode begins with a brief introduction of Kara Danvers, who is the cousin of Superman. After Krypton, her home planet, was destroyed, Kara was sent to Earth to protect her cousin. However, when she landed on Earth, she was taken in by the Danvers family, who raised her as their own. Kara has been hiding her powers for years, but when her adoptive sister, Alex Danvers, is in trouble, Kara decides to embrace her powers and become Supergirl.

Throughout the episode, we see Kara struggling to accept her powers and trying to figure out her place in the world. However, when her boss, Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart, is in danger, Kara realizes that she has a duty to use her powers to protect others.

The episode also introduces us to different characters, including James Olsen, played by Mehcad Brooks, who is Superman's friend and Kara's colleague at CatCo Worldwide Media. We also meet Winslow Schott, played by Jeremy Jordan, who is a technological genius working at the Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO), a government agency that deals with alien threats.

As the episode progresses, we see Kara battling against Vartox, an alien assassin who is targeting her. Kara manages to defeat Vartox with the help of the DEO's agents, including Alex Danvers, who works for the agency. We also learn that Alex has been keeping secrets from Kara, including the fact that their father, Jeremiah Danvers, was involved in the DEO's operations.

The episode ends with Kara embracing her powers and deciding to use them to protect the world as Supergirl. We also see a glimpse of Hank Henshaw, the head of the DEO, who seems to have a mysterious past.

Overall, the Pilot episode of Supergirl does an excellent job of introducing viewers to the world of the show and its characters. It manages to balance action with character development, making it an enjoyable watch for superhero fans and casual viewers alike.
