Kara Danvers aka Supergirl, the last daughter of Krypton, has been fighting crime in National City for quite some time now. But in the tenth episode of the first season, she is faced with a challenge that she never saw coming.

The episode revolves around the return of Kara's arch-nemesis, the evil mastermind, Toyman. This time, however, he's not alone. He breaks out of prison with the help of his son, Winslow "Winn" Schott Jr. And as expected, the duo brings mayhem and chaos wherever they go.

The episode starts with a flashback scene from Kara's childhood. We see her and her younger foster brother, Alex, spending Christmas together. In this happy memory, we also meet Kara's father figure, Jeremiah Danvers, who has now been presumed dead. This scene sets the tone for the episode, which is meant to explore the father-daughter relationship in a brand new way.

As the present-day story moves forward, Kara is alerted to the fact that Toyman has broken out of prison. She heads to the scene to prevent any further damage, only to find out that the one who orchestrated the escape was none other than Winn. This revelation shocks Kara deeply, as she had no idea that Winn's father was Toyman.

Winn, on his part, tries to justify his actions by saying that he had no other option. Toyman had promised to harm innocent people if Winn didn't do as he was told. He's clearly in a dilemma, torn between his loyalty towards his father and his loyalty towards Kara. It's a complicated situation, one that the show expertly pulls off.

The episode explores Toyman's history, and we see how his obsession with toys and games led him down a dark path. He's not just a typical villain, but someone with deep emotional issues that stem from his past trauma. This makes his character more rounded, less one-dimensional.

Meanwhile, we see Kara trying to come to terms with the fact that someone she holds dear has lied to her all this time. She's upset, angry, and feels betrayed. At the same time, she's also trying to fight off Toyman's attacks and prevent him from causing more destruction.

As the episode progresses, we see the relationship between Winn and his father become more complex. They disagree on many issues, especially politics. Toyman doesn't care about the consequences of his actions, whereas Winn is more invested in making the world a better place. This contrast between the two characters is what makes this episode stand out. It's not just about good vs. evil, but also about the different shades of grey that exist within these personalities.

The climax of the episode features a showdown between Supergirl and Toyman. It's an intense, action-packed scene that showcases Kara's strength and determination. But what's more interesting is the fallout of this faceoff. The aftermath of what happens sets up the stage for future episodes, making this episode an important one in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, "Childish Things" is a beautifully crafted episode that explores the complexities of human relationships. It's not just about superheroes fighting villains, but also about the emotional turmoil that exists within these characters. It's an episode that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.
