Ep 1. Pilot

In the pilot episode of Taken, viewers are introduced to Bryan Mills, a former Green Beret and CIA operative who is trying to adjust to civilian life. After a tense opening scene in which we see him carrying out a dangerous operation in Syria, we fast-forward to Mills living in Los Angeles and working as a security consultant. He's estranged from his wife and struggling to connect with his teenage daughter, but seems to be making progress when he takes her to karaoke night at a local bar.

Things take a turn for the worse when Mills goes outside for a cigarette and witnesses a group of men kidnapping a young woman. He springs into action, chasing the kidnappers down on foot and engaging them in a brutal fight. He's able to save the girl, but he's also caught the attention of some very dangerous people.

The rest of the episode follows Bryan as he navigates this new threat while also trying to repair his relationships with his family. We learn more about his backstory through a series of flashbacks, including his time in the military and his first meeting with his wife. We also see him use his skills to help a struggling ex-soldier who is being targeted by a group of thugs.

The pacing is brisk and the action sequences are intense, with a few gory moments that may not be suitable for all viewers. The show's emphasis on Bryan's military training and combat experience is reminiscent of the Taken film franchise that inspired it, but the addition of a more emotional storyline helps to differentiate the series from its predecessors.

One of the standout elements of the episode is Clive Standen's performance as Bryan Mills. He brings a steely intensity to the role that makes it clear he's not to be underestimated, but also shows vulnerability in the scenes with his daughter and estranged wife. His chemistry with Jennifer Beals, who plays Christina Hart, the leader of the covert team that recruits Bryan, is also a highlight.

Overall, the pilot episode of Taken is an exciting introduction to Bryan Mills' world, setting up both the show's action-packed elements and its more personal plotlines. While it may not be a completely original concept, it's executed well and offers plenty of potential for future episodes.
