Tell Me You Love Me is an adult drama series from the HBO channel that explores the relationships of four different couples struggling with their marriages. The series delves into the most intimate details of the couples' lives and reveals their sexual lives in an explicit manner. The producers use a documentary style of filming. The series begins with 40-something Katie (Ally Walker) and her husband David (Tim DeKay), who seem to be an average happy couple, but in reality they no longer share a sex life. One night Katie discovers David pleasuring himself in secret, and she decides to see a therapist, Dr. May Foster (Jane Alexander) to better understand where her marriage has faltered after successfully raising a family together. Another couple in their 30s, Carolyn (Sonya Walger) and Palek (Adam Scott), seek Dr. Foster's help as they struggle with infertility. Driven Carolyn has been a success at everything she has tried, and her frustration at not being able to conceive leads to her blaming Palek for the crisis. Twenty-something Jamie (Michelle Borth) and Hugo (Luke Kirby) are engaged to be married, until Jamie overhears him discussing their relationship with his friends. Jamie begins to doubt whether they will be able to make a lifelong commitment after all. Dr. Foster helps each of the couples communicate their needs and unravel the many layers of conflict that have developed between the partners. At the same time, she struggles with her own marriage to Arthur (David Selby). Even though the long-married couple is in their 60s, they still have barriers to making a connection. As each of the patients explores their feelings and frustrations, they come to a better understanding of how their behavior and relationship styles have created barriers or destructive moments with their partners by exploring the difficulties of intimate connection at different stages of life.
