Rob Petrie, head writer of The Alan Brady Show, is pitching commercial ideas to a potential sponsor, Sol Pomeroy, in his office. Despite the initial success of Rob's pitch, Sol objects to a few of the proposed commercial slogans and suggests incorporating the jingle from a previous campaign. Rob disagrees, but ultimately decides to use Sol's advice in the final product.

Meanwhile, Rob's wife Laura is tasked with preparing dinner for Sol and his wife. Laura, who is not fond of cooking, is initially hesitant but eventually agrees to whip up a meal with help from her neighbor Millie. However, when Laura's cooking attempts fail, they decide to order takeout from a fancy restaurant.

At dinner, Sol and his wife are impressed with the food but Sol becomes increasingly drunk throughout the night, causing Rob to worry about the potential damage to their business partnership. Despite Sol's erratic behavior, the deal is ultimately sealed and the two couples part ways.

Back at home, Laura discovers that she accidentally picked up Sol's coat instead of Rob's, which contains an important contract for The Alan Brady Show. Panicked, Rob rushes to Sol's hotel to retrieve the contract before the Pomeroy's leave for the airport. After a wild chase through the hotel, Rob finally intercepts Sol and retrieves the contract, saving the day.

The episode ends with Rob and Laura marveling at the unpredictability of their lives in show business, and the importance of being adaptable and thinking on their feet.
