Eleanor's competitive side is brought out in "Most Improved Player," the seventh episode of The Good Place's first season.
As the title suggests, the episode centers around an awards ceremony in which one resident of The Good Place will be named "Most Improved Player." Eleanor, ever the contender, becomes determined to win the award for herself. To do so, she sets out to prove that she's improved the most since arriving in The Good Place.
However, things quickly become complicated when she starts to find that her previous actions in life have hurt some of her fellow residents. When she tries to make amends, she only seems to make things worse. Meanwhile, Chidi begins to feel guilty for keeping his love for Simone a secret from his soulmate, and Tahani struggles to come to terms with the fact that she may never be the best at anything in The Good Place.
"Most Improved Player" continues to develop the relationships and conflicts established in previous episodes while also introducing new ones. It delves deeper into the show's exploration of morality and what it means to be a good person.
The humor in this episode remains sharp and witty, with the cast delivering fast-paced dialogue and clever one-liners. However, the stakes feel higher than in previous episodes, as Eleanor's actions become increasingly consequential for her and those around her.
Overall, "Most Improved Player" is a standout episode of The Good Place's first season. It's emotionally compelling, funny, and continues to build on the strengths of the show's premise and characters.
