Ep 22. Alter Ego

Doug Heffernan has an alter ego named "Kirby", who he uses to break free from his everyday responsible life. He uses this alter ego to get away with doing things he knows he shouldn't be doing, such as eating junk food, splurging on unnecessary purchases, and generally being lazy. Carrie, his wife, finds out about Kirby and doesn't take it well. She sees it as a sign that Doug is not happy with their marriage and wants to escape. Doug explains that he just needs a little time to himself and wants to continue being her husband, but also have his indulgent side that Kirby fulfills. In this episode, Doug struggles to balance his two identities and keep them separate. Things come to a head when Kirby starts interfering with Doug's work life, causing him to make mistakes and jeopardize his job. Meanwhile, Carrie is dealing with her own issues at work and finds solace in a coworker who seems to understand her in a way that Doug doesn't. As the couple navigates their individual struggles, they begin to realize the importance of communication and compromise in their marriage. In the end, they come to a new understanding and are able to accept each other's flaws and quirks.
