Ep 2. The Hunted

In the second episode of The Last Alaskans season 1, titled The Hunted, we see the cast members continuing their daily routines and dealing with the harsh realities of life in the Alaskan wilderness.

Bob Harte, who lives alone in a cabin deep in the woods, prepares for winter by chopping firewood and stocking up on supplies. He also checks his traps for furs, which he will sell to earn money. Bob’s solitude is interrupted by a surprise visit from his daughter, who has brought him a gift - a new puppy to keep him company.

Heimo Korth and his wife Edna are also preparing for winter by stocking up on supplies and hunting for meat. They travel by boat to a remote island to hunt caribou, where they face some unexpected obstacles, including a grizzly bear. Heimo uses his sharp shooting skills to protect himself and Edna.

Meanwhile, we meet Tyler and Ashley Selden, a young couple who recently moved to Alaska with their baby daughter. They are also preparing for winter, but their main focus is on providing for their growing family. Tyler goes out on a hunting trip while Ashley stays behind to care for their daughter. Tyler has some close encounters with a bear while he hunts, but ultimately he is able to bag a moose and bring it back to their cabin.

We also see the story of Ray Lewis, who is a former rodeo cowboy trying to make a living in the Alaskan wilderness. He spends his days looking for gold in the river and hunting for food. In this episode, he sets off on a hunting trip with his dogs, but his plans are interrupted when he finds himself lost in the woods. He spends the night in the wilderness, unsure of his next move.

Finally, we meet Bob Harte’s neighbor, Charlie Jagow, who lives with his wife and son in a remote cabin. Charlie is an experienced hunter and trapper, who relies on his skills to provide for his family. In this episode, he goes on a hunting trip to secure food for the winter. He also checks his traps and finds that a wolverine has been stealing his bait. He sets a trap for the wolverine and successfully catches it, which means he will have more food for the winter months.

Throughout the episode, we see the cast members confronting the challenges of living in the Alaskan wilderness, but we also see the rewards of their lifestyle. They share a deep connection with the land and with each other, which makes their struggles worthwhile. Overall, The Hunted gives us a glimpse into the daily lives of these remote Alaskans, showcasing their resilience and strength in the face of harsh living conditions.
