John Doe Munster is the ninth episode of the second season of the classic American sitcom, The Munsters. This episode revolves around the mysterious appearance of a stranger who looks exactly like Herman Munster, the head of the Munster family. This doppelganger, however, has no memory of his past and doesn't know who he is or where he comes from. The Munsters take him in and try their best to help him regain his memory, but their efforts prove to be futile as they encounter a lot of obstacles along the way.

The episode starts with Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne) reading the newspaper and discovering a story about a man who was found unconscious in a nearby park. The man, who has no identification papers on him, looks exactly like Herman. Curious about this strange coincidence, Herman decides to go and see the man for himself. He is accompanied by his wife, Lily (Yvonne De Carlo), and their daughter, Marilyn (Pat Priest).

When they arrive at the hospital, they are introduced to the man who is lying in a hospital bed, unconscious. He looks exactly like Herman, down to the clothes he's wearing and the signature bolts on his neck. The only difference is that he has no memory of his past life and doesn't seem to recognize anyone.

Herman is puzzled by this strange turn of events and decides to take the John Doe Munster (as he's now being referred to) home with him and his family. He hopes that being around people who look and act like him might jog his memory and help him regain his identity.

As soon as they arrive home, however, they realize that having two Hermans in the house isn't as easy as they thought. John Doe Munster is completely clueless about how things work in the Munster household, and his behavior is often erratic and unexplainable. He also seems to have a knack for causing trouble, which only adds to the confusion.

Throughout the episode, the Munsters try various methods to help John Doe Munster regain his memory. They take him to the local bar where he used to hang out, they dig up old photographs of Herman to show him, and they even give him a job as a chef in their restaurant. While these efforts do manage to stir up some vague memories, they are never enough to help John Doe Munster fully remember who he is.

As the episode progresses, the family starts to realize that John Doe Munster may not be who he claims to be. His behavior becomes increasingly odd and suspicious, and he seems to be hiding something from them. This creates tension within the household as they struggle to understand this strange new addition to their family.

In the end, the mystery around John Doe Munster's true identity is never fully resolved. He eventually disappears without a trace, leaving the Munsters to wonder who he really was and where he came from. Despite their failed attempts to help him regain his memory, the family accepts this as just another strange and bizarre occurrence in their unusual lives.

Overall, John Doe Munster is a classic episode of The Munsters that encapsulates the show's quirky and offbeat humor. The concept of a doppelganger experiencing amnesia is a fun and interesting idea, and the episode's execution is top-notch. The chemistry between the cast is as strong as ever, and the episode ends on a satisfyingly spooky note that is sure to leave viewers wondering.
