Ep 4. Obituary

In The Rifleman season 2 episode 4 named "Obituary", Lucas McCain discovers the body of a man named Sam Morley outside of his ranch. The town of North Fork initially assumes that Sam was killed by Native Americans, but Lucas believes that something more sinister is at play.

As Lucas investigates Sam's death, he comes across a number of suspicious characters in town. There's Ace Hanlon, a gambler who owed Sam money, as well as Jake Henning, the town's undertaker who seems unusually interested in Sam's burial.

Lucas is also approached by a young woman named Ellen, who claims to be Sam's daughter. She tells Lucas that Sam had recently come into some money and suspects that someone may have killed him for it.

As Lucas digs deeper into the case, he begins to unravel a web of deceit and betrayal. He discovers that Sam was involved in a land-grab scheme with Jake Henning, and that Ace Hanlon was working with them to cheat other local ranchers out of their property.

As he pieces together the clues, Lucas finds himself in ever-increasing danger. He is attacked by Ace in a saloon, and later kidnapped by Henning and his men.

But Lucas is determined to bring the culprits to justice, and he eventually manages to outwit them. He confronts them in a dramatic showdown in the town square, finally bringing an end to their criminal activities.

In the end, Lucas is mournful when he finally gets Sam's obituary published and he sees Ellen off on the stagecoach, but he's glad that justice has been served. It's clear that even when he's grieving, Lucas McCain is never one to give up on doing what's right.
