Ep 1. Mr. Tequila

Kate Beckinsale stars in the thriller series, The Widow, as Georgia Wells, a woman who believes her husband died in a plane crash three years ago. However, when she catches a glimpse of him in the background of a television news report, she becomes convinced that he is still alive and embarks on a dangerous journey to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to uncover the truth.

The first episode titled "Mr. Tequila" begins in Wales, UK. Georgia is seen working as a waitress in a pub and has a weekly date with a therapist to talk about her grief over the loss of her husband. One night, she sees a man who looks exactly like her deceased husband Will out in the street, and gives chase. But when she finally catches up with him, it turns out to be a case of mistaken identity - the man just looked very similar to Will.

Later that night, Georgia's friend Judith comes over and tells her about a report she saw on the news about an attack in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where many people were killed. The report also shows footage of a man that looks like Will, who Judith believes may have been in the area as a humanitarian worker. Georgia is initially dismissive, but can't shake the feeling that her husband may be alive.

Against the advice of her therapist, Georgia decides to travel to Africa herself in search of answers. She initially goes to a charity that Will had worked for and meets Judith's son, Tom, who is also there volunteering. Tom appears to know more than he is initially letting on, but Georgia is unable to get any definitive information from him.

Later in the episode, Georgia meets a man named Emmanuel Kazadi, a man who claims to know something about her husband's whereabouts. He invites her to a bar, where she is given a drink called "Tequila Sunrise" that quickly knocks her out. When she wakes up, her phone and money are gone.

Meanwhile, in a parallel storyline, a man named Adidja Assan (played by Charles Dance) is searching for a missing girl who he believes may be in danger in the Congo. It becomes clear that there is more to his search than what meets the eye, and that it may be connected to Georgia's search for her husband.

As the episode ends, Georgia is seen waking up in a dingy apartment with little memory of how she got there. She is surrounded by people who appear to be part of a human trafficking ring. The episode leaves the audience on a cliffhanger, wondering how Georgia will get herself out of this dangerous situation and continue her search for her husband.
