Kevin is excited to take a history class taught by a popular teacher, Mr. Cutlip, but his enthusiasm quickly fades when he realizes that the class is more about memorizing dates than actual history. Meanwhile, Kevin's brother Wayne has a run-in with a tough kid named Dean, who threatens him and steals his bike. When Wayne decides to take matters into his own hands and confront Dean, things escalate quickly and both he and Kevin find themselves on the wrong side of Dean and his gang.
As Dean continues to torment them, Kevin turns to Mr. Cutlip for advice, only to be told that sometimes the only way to deal with a bully is to stand up to them. Taking this advice to heart, Kevin and Wayne devise a plan to get Dean back, but their plan quickly backfires and things get even worse.
Throughout the episode, Kevin also grapples with his feeling about his father, who he feels is distant and unapproachable. But when his father comes to his defense against Dean and his gang, Kevin realizes that there is more to his father than he thought.
In the end, Kevin and Wayne manage to find a way to get even with Dean, but not before realizing the value of standing up for themselves and their family. The episode ends on a hopeful note, with Kevin realizing that even though he may not understand his father completely, there is a bond between them that cannot be broken.
