Kevin's dad has a camping trip planned with his youngest son, but Wayne begs his father to let him be the one to go instead. They eventually settle on a compromise where Wayne takes Kevin's place and Kevin spends the weekend with the girls. While Wayne and his dad are enjoying the outdoors, fishing and cooking up a storm, Kevin is at home with his mom and siblings, feeling a bit out of place.
Kevin's mom tries to make the best of a weekend without her husband and youngest son by taking the kids to the park, but Kevin has trouble letting go of his disappointment. Meanwhile, Wayne and his dad are having a real bonding experience over some good old fashioned manly activities. Wayne even manages to catch a fish, much to his dad's surprise.
Back at home, Kevin is subjected to more girl time than he can handle. His sister Karen and her friend Julie are constantly teasing him and his little sister is a bit of a handful. Kevin tries to escape by hiding out in his treehouse, only to be discovered by Karen and Julie. They proceed to tease him relentlessly until Kevin's mom steps in and puts a stop to it.
As night falls at the campsite, Wayne and his dad enjoy a peaceful evening by the fire. They talk about life and family and Wayne's dad shares some wise words about the importance of family. Wayne admits that he's glad he got to come on the trip and his dad just smiles.
Back at home, Kevin's mom puts on a movie for the kids, but Kevin can't shake his disappointment. He eventually asks his mom if she ever gets sick of being a mom and wife and wishes she could do something else with her life. His mom admits that it's not always easy, but that being part of a family is something special. She tells Kevin that the camping trip probably isn't as great as Wayne thinks it is and that family is what really matters.
As the night wears on, Wayne and his dad settle into their tent and Wayne admits that he's glad his little brother didn't come on the trip. He says that he's happy to be spending time with his dad and that he'll never forget this weekend. Meanwhile, Kevin is tucked into bed at home, feeling a little less alone. He drifts off to sleep with a newfound appreciation for his family and the memories they share.
