In this episode, Mulder and Scully are called to investigate a missing group of loggers who had been working in a remote national forest in the Pacific Northwest. The loggers, unaware of the danger, had inadvertently disturbed the insects' habitat, causing them to attack.

Now Mulder and Scully must race against time to find a way to stop the insects and escape the forest before they too become victims of the deadly swarm. With the help of the young ranger, they formulate a plan to use fire as their weapon against the insects and find a way to communicate with the outside world for help.
