Ep 6. The Goldberg Variation

John Gillnitz is a man with an incredible talent -- every day of his life, he's able to predict accidents before they happen. He uses this talent to prevent accidents on a daily basis, but his life isn't easy -- he's been kicked out of college and fired from numerous jobs because his talent has made him a liability in the eyes of his employers. One day, John's life takes an unexpected turn when he wins a large sum of money betting on a baseball game. He decides to use the money to start a new life, but his plans are derailed when he finds Detective Munch waiting for him at the door. Munch tells John that the money he won was part of a drug deal and that the people he's dealing with will stop at nothing to get it back. John is forced to flee from the drug dealers and eventually lands in the hospital with a broken leg.

Mulder and Scully are called in to investigate John's case when a series of bizarre accidents occur at the hospital where he's being held. They quickly realize that John's talent is real and that it's causing the accidents. John wants nothing more than to be left alone, but Mulder and Scully convince him to help them stop a killer who's targeting one of the other patients at the hospital. John uses his talent to track down the killer and saves the day.

The episode is a departure from the show's usual format, focusing on a single character rather than the overarching plot line of the series. It's a fun, lighthearted episode that provides a nice break from the show's usual serious tone. John is a likable character, and the episode does a good job of making the audience care about what happens to him.
