  • June 21, 2007

In season 1 episode 10 of Throwdown with Bobby Flay, the renowned chef faces off against some of the best doughnut makers in America. Flay ventures to some of the most famous doughnut shops across the country, including Doughnut Plant in New York City and Bob's Doughnuts in San Francisco, to learn the secrets behind their delicious creations.

The episode starts off with Flay speaking to Mark Isreal, the founder and owner of Doughnut Plant. Isreal reveals that his doughnuts are made with all natural ingredients, and he uses no preservatives or artificial flavorings. Flay samples several of Doughnut Plant's signature doughnuts, such as the Tres Leches doughnut and the Valrhona Chocolate Doughnut.

Next, Flay visits Bob's Doughnuts in San Francisco, where he meets Bob, the owner and head chef. Bob tells Flay that his doughnuts are made with the finest ingredients, including European butter and organic flour. Flay tries Bob's famous glazed doughnut and vanilla cream-filled doughnut, and is blown away by their deliciousness.

Flay then travels to Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, Oregon, where he meets founders Tres Shannon and Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogsenik. Voodoo Doughnut is known for its eccentric and unique flavors, such as Bacon Maple Bar and Grape Ape. Flay tries several of their most popular doughnuts and is impressed by their creativity.

Finally, Flay goes to the Doughnut Vault in Chicago, Illinois, where he meets the owner and head baker, Leslie. The Doughnut Vault is known for its classic, yet perfected, flavors, such as the Old Fashioned and the Buttermilk doughnut. Flay tries several of their doughnuts and declares them "perfectly crafted."

After sampling some of the best doughnuts in America, Flay returns to his kitchen to create his own doughnut recipe to compete against the doughnut masters. He uses his favorite ingredients, such as honey and sea salt, to create a unique and delicious doughnut. Flay's doughnut features a maple glaze and crushed pistachios on top.

The doughnut makers arrive at Flay's kitchen, unaware of the Throwdown challenge. Flay reveals his challenge, and the bakers are excited and nervous to compete against one of the most famous chefs in the world.

The judges try each doughnut blindly, without knowing which doughnut belongs to which chef. Flay's doughnut is praised for its unique flavor and texture, while the other doughnuts are also impressive. In the end, the judges announce the winner of the Throwdown, and Flay congratulates the master doughnut maker on their victory.

Overall, season 1 episode 10 of Throwdown with Bobby Flay is a mouth-watering and exciting episode that showcases some of the best doughnuts in America. Flay's quest to learn the secrets behind these doughnuts and create his own recipe is captivating, and the Throwdown challenge adds an element of competition to the show.
