Ep 4. A Decent Proposal

Whitney is a sitcom featuring the life of titular character Whitney Cummings and her friends. Whitney starts feeling undervalued and unappreciated as everyone around her seems to have an opinion on this matter but her. She decides to take the initiative and meet with her mother, Candi, to talk to her about the proposal. Candi’s perspective on marriage is different from everyone else’s. She tells Whitney a tale of how her husband cheated on her and that she eventually left him. After listening to her mother’s story, Whitney is not sure whether to accept or decline the proposal.

As the episode progresses, Whitney seeks the advice of various people, including a grocery store clerk, an old couple on a park bench, and even a drunk girl, to help her make up her mind. Her friends, however, do not give up on Whitney and organize a surprise engagement party, which leads to a significant turn of events.

Towards the end of the episode, Whitney, still unsure about what to do, finally confronts her own fears when she sees Alex’s grandmother struggling in a hospital bed. She realizes that marriage is not just about two people being happy together but also sharing your joys and sorrows with your partner. She finally accepts the proposal and informs Alex, who is ecstatic and overwhelmed.

Whitney’s struggle to decide whether or not to accept Alex’s proposal in A Decent Proposal, is portrayed with a light-hearted touch, making the episode entertaining to watch.
