WordGirl is an American animated TV show about a ten-year-old girl named Becky Botsford, who is also a masked superheroine, WordGirl. In each episode, WordGirl fights against a villain, and generally, things come to a happy conclusion. In season 4 episode 14 titled "Win a Shiny New Car/The People vs. Ms. Question," WordGirl faces off against two villains with very different motives.
The episode starts with Becky attending a promotional event with her family. A local car dealership is holding a raffle, and the grand prize is a shiny new car. Becky's little brother, TJ, is excited about the raffle. Becky tries to act less interested, but secretly, she too hopes to win the car. To enter the contest, people have to fill out entry forms and answer a few math questions. The dealership manager, Mr. Big, tells the crowd that the car is "shiny, new, and just waiting for someone to claim it."
Meanwhile, a new villain, Granny May, has arrived in the city. She's an old lady, but looks can be deceiving. Granny May is always up to no good, stealing and causing chaos around the city. When she hears about the shiny new car at the dealership, she decides to steal it. However, Granny May doesn't plan to drive the car herself. Instead, she starts a fake charity, "Granny May's Home for Stray Cars," and plans to auction off the car to the highest bidder. Granny May knows she can make a lot of money off the car, and she doesn't care who she hurts.
As WordGirl tries to stop Granny May, another villain comes into play. Ms. Question is upset that she was not invited to the car giveaway. She decides to take the dealership to court and files a complaint against them for not inviting her. She believes it's a case of discrimination against villains. Ms. Question tries to build a case, but she's interrupted by WordGirl, who tries to convince her that the dealership has done nothing wrong.
WordGirl and Ms. Question argue over the issue, but eventually, they realize that they have a common enemy in Granny May. They team up to stop Granny May's evil plan and save the car. Along the way, they have to use their wits and their knowledge of math, as there are a few tricky math problems standing in their way. WordGirl remembers some of the math questions from the entry form, and she uses that to help solve the problems. Ms. Question, who is usually not good at math, also chips in to help.
In the end, WordGirl and Ms. Question succeed in stopping Granny May's plan. The car is returned to the dealership, and everyone is happy. TJ is, of course, disappointed that his family didn't win the car, but Becky reminds him that they're lucky to have each other. She also tells him that they can still go to the dealership and see the shiny new car. TJ cheers up, and the episode ends with Becky's family, including WordGirl, walking off into the sunset.
Overall, "Win a Shiny New Car/The People vs. Ms. Question" is a fun episode that teaches viewers about teamwork, math, and doing the right thing. It illustrates how different people can work together, despite their differences, and achieve a common goal. It's a show that parents can watch with their children, and everyone can enjoy.
