In episode 5 of season 13 of Worst Cooks in America titled "Celebrity: A La Cuisine!," the remaining celebrity recruits are put to the test with a classic French dish. Chef Anne Burrell and Chef Michael Symon challenge the recruits to cook Coq au Vin, a chicken dish cooked in red wine, bacon, and mushrooms.
The recruits are split into two teams, with each team assigned a different protein to cook with. The blue team is given chicken thighs, while the red team is given chicken breasts. The recruits must work together to prepare the dish from scratch, including butchering the meat and chopping the vegetables.
As the recruits begin cooking, tensions rise in the kitchen as some struggle with basic kitchen skills such as measuring ingredients and using knives properly. The chefs come around to offer guidance and advice, but ultimately the success or failure of the dish falls on the shoulders of the recruits.
As the cooking comes to a close, the recruits present their dishes to the judges. Chef Anne and Chef Michael taste each dish carefully, noting the successes and failures of each team. The winning team is given a special advantage in the upcoming main dish challenge.
In the main challenge, the celebrities are tasked with creating dishes inspired by their personal heroes. The recruits must draw inspiration from their heroes to create dishes that are both meaningful and delicious. Chef Anne and Chef Michael taste each dish, considering both the taste and the inspiration behind it.
At the end of the episode, one recruit is sent home while the others move on to the next round of the competition. The remaining celebrities will continue to be tested on their kitchen skills and creativity as they compete for the grand prize of $25,000.
