Country Strong is a movie that embodies the spirit, the heart, and the passion of country music as it tells a story of triumphant and tragedy. It combines a great story and a well-crafted musical score and is carried out by a talented and authentic cast. The story revolves around Kelly Canter, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, an aging country music star who has leaves rehab and is ready to announce her health and re-assert herself as a star by going out on tour. While in rehab she meets and develops a strong connection to a young male singer played by Garrett Hedlund, who she chooses to bring on tour with her. The chemistry between Paltrow and Hedlund is genuine and the relationship continues to develop on the tour. However, Canter's husband and manager, played by real life country music star Tim McGraw, is also on tour. Naturally, a love triangle situation quickly develops and creates plenty of awkwardness and instability on the tour, which is only increased by Canter's erratic behavior and continued struggles with alcohol, even outside of rehab. Paltrow plays the lead role with incredible conviction and believability, as her character spirals out of control and continues to fall down every time she or someone else picks her up.
Also on the tour is a young up and coming country singer named Chiles Stanton, played by Leighton Meester. Stanton is a lifelong fan of Canter and has deep admiration for her career, as she follows her along as the tour's opening act. As the story unfolds Canter develops jealousy towards Stanton, because of her young and because fans are increasingly accepting of her as the tour rolls on. It also doesn't help that Stanton and Hedlund's character, Beau Hutton, are growing close together, working together, and developing a strong bond. Meester does a fine job of playing the role of a sweet and innocent young woman just trying to make her dreams come true. It's a challenging role since in many ways she an antagonist of the protagonist, but from the point of view of the audience she is simply a second protagonist.
Country Strong appeals to both lovers of country music and those that enjoy good dramas that don't always end perfectly happy. In the end, the movie is about doing whatever it takes to make your dream happen and struggling to keep your dreams alive. Ultimately, it's a cross generational story of two great country musicians.
Leighton Meester is branching out of her role as Blair, making her way towards another big screen opportunity alongside one of the Hollywood’s most lucrative actors. According to Variety, Meester is being considered for the role of Adam Sandler’s future daughter-in-law in the upcoming comedy “I Hate You Dad.” If she is cast in the role, it won’t entirely be a laughing matter for Meester. She will have to bring out her mean streak as her character constantly fights with Sandler, who moves in with his son (Andy Samberg) and his fiancé.
Country Strong (2010) is directed and written by Shana Feste. Producers include Tobey Maguire along with Jenno Topping. The official soundtrack of Country Strong was released on 26th October 2009. Country strong is set to premiere in select theaters on 22nd December 2010, and the movie will have its world premier on 7th January 2011, under the distribution of Screen Gems. The storyline of Country Strong is based on the life of renowned country singer Kelly Canter played by actor Gwyneth Paltrow.
Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed recently that her two children, Apple and Moses, actually think she is a singer rather than an actress. This isn't really surprising given that Paltrow has been learning how to play the guitar and has been singing for the last year in preparation for her role in the up and coming movie Country Strong. Whilst the kids do have a famous singer in the family – English lead singer with band Coldplay, Chris Martin, who is married to Gwyneth – the two children seem convinced that it is their mother that is the crooner in the family rather than their dad.
It has been confirmed that Gwyneth Paltrow is considering using her newly appointed singing skills to take on a role in the upcoming movie adaptation of hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages, which features songs from artists including Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister and Poison, is set for a cinematic release with star actor Tom Cruise in discussions to join the movie. Gwyneth recently revealed that she is also considering joining the project. Of course, this all comes after proving how well she can sing in new movie Country Strong.
Without a huge budget or a lot of special effects, Country Strong has generated some buzz, mainly for Gwyneth Paltrow's singing. She debuted the title song for the movie, which opens in limited release this Friday, on an awards show recently. Even though the movie has not been reviewed, some are saying Paltrow's performance as washed up country singer Kelly Canter could earn her an Oscar nomination. Paltrow last won for her role in 1998's Shakespeare in Love. Screenings in various cities have drawn mixed reviews online with some saying it's a great movie and performance and some saying it's not.
