Not every girl featured is sixteen, but every one is a teenager. Some of the girls have supportive families or romantic partners, but many are struggling with broken homes and bad relationships. The girls are still in high school and most are unemployed. Navigating school, relationships and finances while dealing with pregnancy is harrowing. The girls all crack under the strain, giving viewers a first-hand look at the difficulties of teenage pregnancy.
The show follows the girls for the last months of pregnancy and for several months after they give birth. Some girls give their baby up for adoption, some girls try to raise their child with the baby's father and some girls struggle as teenage single mothers. Every episode features interviews with the girl discussing what it's like to be pregnant and the thought process behind her choices. At the end of the season, a reunion show gives updates in each girl's life. Some of the girls are doing well while others lose custody of their babies or go to prison.
Because of the dramatic situations and stress that each girl goes through, 16 and Pregnant is not recommended for very young viewers. Bad language, poor behavior and sexual situations are common. For adults and teenagers, however, 16 and Pregnant shows the unglamorous reality of teenage pregnancy in America.

The E! News host knocks the teenage pregnancy show.
Arkansas Child Protective Services representatives removed "16 and Pregnant" stars Josh Rendon and his 20-year-old wife Ebony Jackson's two-year-old daughter from the pair's home and Jacksonville police charged the two with misdemeanor child endangerment and drug possession.
"16 and Pregnant" star Aubrey Wolters was caught shoplifting at an Arizona WalMart this week with her baby Austin in tow, and while authorities searched her, they found prescription drugs. Wolters was carrying ADHD drug Ritalin and the painkiller Oxycontin, and she had a prescription for neither, according to RadarOnline.
No need to wait mid-season to pull out the crazy or drama. Staying true to early blooming, MTV’s ’16 & Pregnant’ is taking on the serious issue of domestic violence before the show even begins. As TMZ reports a new star of the show, Jennifer Del Rio, is living in fear of the father of her twins. After a recent assault, Del Rio, 17, has requested a restraining order against 19 year-old Josh Smith.
MTV is airing their controversial special on TV tonight. MTV has been criticized for their show 16 and Pregnant, but this show will top that for complaints I am guessing! Tonights episode of 16 and Pregnant follows around a 19 year old that already has a one year old baby who is contemplating and then gets an abortion after finding out she was pregnant for the second time. From Fox News: On the show, Markai Durham, who was first seen last month on "16 and Pregnant," discovers she is expecting again and must decide whether to have the baby.
