Watch Defiance

Defiance is a science fiction television series set in a post-apocalyptic near future. An alien race called the Voltans have attempted to colonize Earth after their own world was destroyed, which resulted in a disastrous war between the Voltans and humanity. The Voltans terraformed parts of the planet, making it unrecognizable. After years of war, the two sides made peace, but they must now try to get along in a world that has devolved in chaos.

Australian actor Grant Bowler stars as the series' protagonist, Jeb Nolan, a former soldier and drifter. Upon returning to his hometown of St. Louis, he finds it in a ruined state with the residents living like refugees in a nearby settlement called Defiance. He decides to take up the position of Chief Lawkeeper in an attempt to help keep the peace in this dangerous border town. Stephanie Leonidas plays Irisa Nyira, an Irathien warrior who is also Nolan's adopted daughter. The pair tries to keep order while dealing with the hostile relationships between humans and the different groups of Voltans. Julie Benz, best known for her role on Dexter, also stars as the mayor of Defiance, Amanda Rosewater.

In a unique step, the Syfy channel has created Defiance to run as a live action TV show and an online video game at the same time. They have partnered with Trion Worlds to created the video game portion as an third-person shooter MMO. As major events take place on the show, the world of the game will change to reflect them. The story on TV, however, also stands alone as a storyline.

The show is set to debut on the Syfy channel in April of 2013. Twelve hour-long episodes will air. The show is written by Rockne O'Bannon, creator of SyFy's popular and long-running series Farscape. It is being produced by Universal Cable Productions.
