Marty is struggling with the aftermath of his decision to leave Kaan & Associates, and Jeannie is equally uncertain about her new role as interim CEO. The two meet for lunch to discuss the situation and try to figure out what to do next. Meanwhile, Doug is dealing with his own troubles, as his marriage is falling apart and he is struggling to keep it together for the sake of his son.
As Marty and Jeannie continue to hash out their options, they are interrupted by an unexpected visitor: Marty's father, Jeremiah. Jeremiah has come to town to confront his son about his recent actions and to try to convince him to come back to the family business. Marty is reluctant to go back to his old life, but Jeremiah is persistent and seems determined to get his way.
Meanwhile, Doug is struggling to balance his work life with his family life, and his marriage is suffering as a result. He confides in Clyde, who offers him some advice and helps him to see that he needs to put his family first if he wants to save his marriage.
As Marty and Jeannie continue to talk, they begin to realize that maybe going back to their old jobs at Kaan & Associates isn't the best option. Instead, they hatch a plan to start their own consulting firm, and they approach Clyde and Doug for help. The four of them work together to come up with a business plan and a strategy for launching their new venture.
With the plan in motion, Marty and Jeannie turn their attention to their personal lives. Marty reconnects with his ex-wife, Monica, and contemplates the possibility of a future with her. Jeannie, meanwhile, grapples with her feelings for Marty and wonders if she's ready to take their relationship to the next level.
As the episode comes to a close, the new consulting firm is launched, and Marty, Jeannie, Clyde, and Doug celebrate their success. But the road ahead won't be easy, and they know that they'll have to work hard to make it work. With determination and a lot of hard work, however, they just might have what it takes to make their new business a success.
