Ep 2. Nerd

In New Girl season 3, episode 2, titled "Nerd," Jess (Zooey Deschanel) tries to remain cool as she starts her new job as a substitute teacher. Meanwhile, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) compete for the affection of Cece's (Hannah Simone) attractive new roommate, Coach (Damon Wayans Jr.) returns to town and debates the rules of male friendship with Nick (Jake Johnson).

The episode opens with Jess starting her new job as a substitute teacher. She is determined to be cool and gain the respect of her students, but her quirky personality and odd teaching style don't seem to be getting through to them. Jess becomes discouraged when she realizes that she might not be cut out for the job after all.

Meanwhile, Schmidt and Winston compete for the attention of Cece's new roommate, Emma. Emma is a beautiful and nerdy scientist who seems to be interested in both of them. Schmidt and Winston try to outdo each other in various activities to impress her, including cooking, dancing, and even playing Dungeons and Dragons. However, their antics only seem to drive Emma away.

The return of Coach to the loft adds some tension to Nick's already complicated love life. Nick is still dating both Jess and his ex-girlfriend Caroline, and Coach tries to convince him to make a decision. Nick, however, is more interested in debating the rules of male friendship with Coach. The two have a hilarious and absurd argument that ends in a dance-off.

The episode culminates in Jess finding a way to connect with her students by using her love of Harry Potter to teach them about literature. Schmidt and Winston realize that their competition is getting in the way of their friendship and decide to stop seeing Emma altogether. Nick finally makes a decision about his love life, but not without a funny twist.

Overall, "Nerd" is a hilarious episode that showcases the talents of the New Girl cast. Jess' struggle to be cool and Winston and Schmidt's competition provide plenty of laughs, while Coach's return and Nick's love life drama add some depth to the storyline. Emma's character adds an interesting twist to the dynamics of the loft, and her interactions with Winston and Schmidt are particularly amusing.
