Revenge is a primetime soap opera that debuted on the ABC network on September 21, 2012 and stars Emily VanCamp in the lead role. The series was created by Mike Kelly who also serves an executive producer with Marty C. Bowen, Gordon Wyck Godfrey, and Phillip Noyce. The series is produced Mike Kelley Productions, The Freight Page Company, and Temple Hill Studios in conjunction with ABC studios. The series is filmed in Los Angeles and South Hampton, NY. The pilot was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina. Chris Manley, Cynthia Pusheck, and John Smith serve as the principal cinematographers for the series. Revenge is a one hour drama had has so far produced thirty-one episodes.

The show marks the second dramatic series in recent history by Emily VanCamp. She starred in another dramatic series with the network. This is her first lead role on a primetime drama. Revenge has a large ensemble cast as well as a plethora of recurring characters.

Set in the Hamptons, the plot finds Amanda Clarke returning to her childhood hometown as Emily Thorne a weatlthy philanthropist and socialite. In reality, Amanda is on a mission to avenge the death of her father David Clarke, who was wrongfully accused of money laundering, imprisoned and then killed. In the pilot, Nolan Ross played by Gabriel Mann befriends Amanda upon her release from a juvenile detention center to tell her of her father's framing and death. Amanda and Nolan become allies in her plot to avenge her father's death; taking down the wealthy Greyson family and their acquaintances responsible for covering her father's death. As she acts out her sordid plan, her emotions often get the best of her and she begins to question her motives and moves.

Madeline Lowe plays Victoria Greyson the matriarch of the rich, powerful, and cunning Greyson family and arch nemesis to Emily. The audience learns that Greyson was having an affair with Emily's father David Clarke but when her husband Conrad is outed for shady business dealings; Victoria betrays David and frames him for the white collar crimes. Victoria is unaware of Emily's true identity, but mistrusts her intentions.

Henry Czerny plays Conrad Grayson the arrogant father of Daniel and Charlotte Greyson. Conrad's selfish ways, fraud, and lies come out throughout the mystery. His allegiance is to no one but himself and he is willing to betray his family to keep his power and prestige.

Josh Bowman and Christa Allen play Daniel and Charlotte Greyson respectively. They are the children of Victoria and Conrad. Daniel and Emily develop a relationship as she uses him to get into the inner circle of his family. Charlotte suffers from a prescription drug addiction, but eventually learns that Emily is actually the half sister of Emily and Conrad Greyson is not her biological father. They are intertwined into the web of Emily's revenge.

The pilot episode of Revenge was met with positive reviews and high ratings in the key 18-49 demographic. Critics praised the strong writing and performances of the series' lead actors. It made many critic's lists of one of the top programs in 2011. The show was renewed for a second season in May of 2012. For the second season the show was moved to the time slot of Sundays at 9 PM eastern time. Since its inception, the show has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actress in a television drama as well as People's Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards. The show has also been praised for its diverse portrayal of LGBT characters. Revenge is just one of a recent string of hit primetime dramas for ABC. The network has see a recent boom of successful hour long primetime soaps.

Revenge is broadcast internationally in a number of countries; Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, and Canada just to name a few. The show has yet to be picked up for a third season by the network.
