Watch The Hard Times of RJ Berger

"The Hard Times of RJ Berger" is a television series that premiered on MTV. The premise is straightforward; RJ is a socially awkward "geek". He also happens to be well-endowed, but it is a secret he keeps from everyone. RJ's secret is revealed is forced to play in a basketball game by his gym coach after a series of players are hurt.

He puts on a uniform three-times too big for him and heads out on the court. After a few moments of playing the shorts, which were much too big, fall down and reveal his privates to the school. He initially becomes popular due to the incident but it dies down eventually and RJ is relegated to relative anonymity once again.

While the experience was embarrassing, the sudden popularity piques his interest and he insists he is going to make an effort to forge an active social life. The rest of the series follows RJ as he attempts to handle the pitfalls of his teenage years, his parent's sexual relationship and, eventual, divorce, and his unrequited love for Jenny Swanson, a popular and beautiful cheerleader. He is also forced to deal with Lily, his best friend who has a crush on him, and the constant nagging of his other friends who are desperate to become popular.

RJ begins to move through life at warp speed, learning how to be socially acceptable along the way. He dates Jenny, but they eventually part ways. Soon he meets Amy, a tutor, and they begin a relationship that carries through the entirety of the series. The show ran for two full seasons.

The creators of the show describe "The Hard Times of RJ Berger" as a cross between "Super Bad" and "The Wonder Years". In essence, the series is a coming of age tale for the 21st century youth. It is presented in a comical manner but it does deal intensely with the harsh realities of teenage life; including divorce, illness and bullying. The sexual connotations and innuendos push it firmly into the mature audience category; thus the creator's descriptions aren't entirely correct.

VIDEO: Vinny from the 'Shore' Flexes Acting Muscles Playing RJ's Cousin Vinny

Vinny Guadagnino has been flexing his acting muscles for MTV’s “The Hard Times of RJ Berger.”

Moving from his reality television perch on the “Jersey Shore,” Guadagnino stepped into the role of RJ’s cousin Vinny.

As the TV Squad jokes, the role didn’t require much stretch for Guadagnino but that may have been what MTV had hoped. Guadagnino’s guest appearance could boost ratings for the show in its second season, which is why we may see more of the “Shore” sprinkled throughout the network
