Watch Yukon Men

Yukon Men, named after residents living near the Yukon River, is an non-scripted, documentary cable series produced by Paper Route Productions, for the Discovery Channel. The show depicts the severe but beautiful existence and conditions in Tanana, a village in Alaska. Here, the residents live by the land, where they trap, fish, and hunt. This production showcases their superior survival instincts and strong sense of community and camaraderie.

The television show fits with the toughness themes of others like Deadliest Catch and Survivorman. Families frequently work together, even down to preparing carcasses and processing meat, and stoking their furnaces.

The first episode begins with Stan Zuray, a 40-year outdoors wilderness veteran, hunting for caribou, with his son 21-year old son Joey. They travel for more than three days by snowmobile and dog sled, near the Ray Mountains. With nothing to show for their efforts, they finally pursue a lead from Courtney Agnes, local kennel owner, married to an oil field worker. She tells them a wolf has apparently been ravaging the fish in her smoke house. But the problem is taken care of by handyman-trapper, Charlie Wright, whose day job is local water plant operator. However, Charlie is focused on plant operations and must ask area lumber dealer James Roberts, for the necessary firewood. Then, after hearing reports of a Caribou herd several hours away, Stan, Charlie, and sons set out to procure four of the animals. They return to the village, where they then dress and provide meat for family and friends.

Other episodes follow, with the villagers hunting beaver, and confronting a wolverine, and a bear. They must also deal with mechanical problems, and a missing villager. Competitions are conducted for fun. They're all required to be true survivors, working well together. Whether or not this type of lifestyle appeals to one, many have found watching the episodes so far, to be entertaining and informative. The tough villagers respect nature and each other, an enduring and universal theme.
