Incredibles 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 Pixar classic, picks up immediately where the first film left off. Superheroes are still outlawed, and the Parr family, aka the Incredibles, are still reeling from their latest showdown with evil genius Syndrome. But when wealthy tech entrepreneur Winston Deavor (voiced by Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk) approaches Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) with a plan to bring superheroes back into the spotlight, they can't resist the opportunity to suit up once again.

The catch? Winston wants Elastigirl to be the face of the operation, leaving Mr. Incredible to take charge of their three kids, including newly emerging powers in baby Jack-Jack. While Elastigirl struggles to track down and defeat a new villain known only as Screenslaver, Mr. Incredible must navigate the challenges of parenthood, from helping Dash (Huck Milner) with his math homework to coping with teenage daughter Violet's (Sarah Vowell) romantic woes.

Writer-director Brad Bird, who also wrote and directed the first film, manages to bring the same level of wit, heart, and thrilling action to Incredibles 2. The animation, now in stunning 4K Ultra HD, looks even more vibrant and detailed than before, especially in sequences that showcase Elastigirl's stretchy abilities. But it's the characters, both old and new, that truly make the movie shine.

Nelson and Hunter slip back into their roles as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl effortlessly, and the movie gives them both plenty of time to shine. Elastigirl's solo missions provide some of the film's most thrilling action sequences, but the real treat is watching her grapple with the moral implications of being a superhero in a world that fears and distrusts them. Meanwhile, Mr. Incredible's storyline may be less explosive, but it's no less engaging. Watching him bond with his kids and struggle with feeling useless in the face of his wife's heroism is both hilarious and heartwarming.

The supporting cast is equally delightful. Jackson's Frozone may not get as much screen time as fans might hope, but his banter with Mr. Incredible is as funny as ever. And newcomer Catherine Keener steals several scenes as Winston's tech-savvy sister Evelyn. So too does Isabella Rossellini, who voices a reclusive tycoon with a surprising link to Mr. Incredible's past.

As for the villain, Screenslaver isn't quite as memorable as Syndrome from the first film, but he or she (no spoilers here!) still provides a formidable foe for Elastigirl to face. Without giving too much away, Screenslaver's power may hit too close to home for modern audiences, but the film handles the concept with the perfect amount of nuance and commentary.

Overall, Incredibles 2 is an incredible follow-up to one of Pixar's most beloved films. It's a fun, thrilling, and surprisingly poignant examination of family, heroism, and the power of technology in the modern age. And with its stunning animation and lovable characters, it's impossible not to be completely charmed by this film.
