Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig created the beloved children's book character Angelina Ballerina, and she went on to have her own television show, which was conceived in the UK and features the animated tales of this charming mouse and her friends and family.

Angelina Mouseling is voiced by Finty Williams, while her ballet teacher, Miss Lilly, is given voice by Dame Judi Dench. Other regular characters in the series include Angelina's best friend Alice Nimbletoes (Jo Wyatt) and her parents (Keith Wickham and Jonell Elliot). Many of the voice actors play multiple roles. One actor who doesn't is theatre legend Derek Jacobi, who voices Mr. Ivor Operatski, a very distinguished friend of Miss Lilly.

The episodes in this series are only 15 minutes long, and they take their inspiration from the extensive series of books. Many of them deal with typical childhood struggles like sibling rivalry, elementary school crushes and bullying. The episodes also deal specifically with ballet culture and the practice that is needed to truly master such an art form.

Angelina Ballerina and its related series, Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps, which features her as an older girl who has moved to America, are aimed at young children. While Angelina Ballerina is set in the fictional UK town of Chipping Cheddar, it has found great resonance with American audiences, particularly little girls who are enchanted by the beauty of ballet and the sweetness of Angelina and her friends and family.

The series includes an assortment of interesting characters, from ornery neighbor Harriet Hodgepodge to petty twins Priscilla and Penelope Pinkpaws. Each of the additional characters allows for more complex stories to occur as Angelina explores the world beyond just her own house and her beloved ballet studio, encouraging children to see all of the possibilities that lie before them in their lives.

Angelina Ballerina is a series that is currently running and has 6 seasons (55 episodes). The series first aired on May 4, 2002.
